Plan yourtattoo
You have an idea in your head and no clue what to do next. You scroll flash, save screenshots, then stall.
This page is for that in‑between part.
I have been tattooing in Toronto for six years. Most of my work starts the same way you are starting now, with a rough idea and a lot of questions. This is how I guide clients from idea to finished piece.
From a half-formed idea to a booked session. Read it in order or jump to the part you are stuck on — every step ends where the next one starts.
Start With Your Reason
Before you worry about size or placement, sit with why you want this tattoo. You do not need a deep story, but you do need a clear reason.
It might be a person, a moment, a song, a piece of art, or a style you are pulled to. Write a few words about it in your notes.
Then collect references. Not to copy, but to show me what you are drawn to. Save tattoos, photography, paintings, album covers, anything that feels close.
Decide If My Style Fits What You Want
My focus is fine line work, realism, dark work and modern takes on traditional tattooing. All in black ink.
I do not do colour pieces. If your idea depends on bright colour, I am not the right artist.
If you like fine line detail, realistic faces or objects, blackwork and modern composition, you are in the right place. Browse the tattoo styles I offer and the gallery to see how I work on real skin.
Think About Placement On Your Body
Where a tattoo sits changes how it feels and how it reads. The same design looks and ages very differently on a wrist, chest or thigh.
Ask yourself:
Different spots feel different to sit through too. If you are nervous about pain, read the tattoo pain guide before you choose.
- 01Do I want to see it all the time or just sometimes?
- 02Do I need to cover it at work or for family?
- 03Do I want it to flow with muscle lines or sit more like a graphic?
Choose The Right Size
Screens make everything look smaller than it is. The detail you see on your phone often needs more space on skin.
Fine line realism, faces, hands, animals and anything with tiny features need room. If you squeeze them into a micro tattoo, they blur and lose shape faster.
In our consultation I will tell you honestly what size will hold the detail you want. You can also read the guide on tattoo size and commitment for more on how scale affects look and time.
Understand Time, Sessions And Budget
Good tattoos take time. Some pieces are one quick session, others are built over several.
Here is how I work:
I do not publish my hourly rate online. In your consultation I give you a clear range for your specific idea. If you are planning a large piece or sleeve, we talk about how many sessions it will likely spread over.
- 01**Minimum charge:** $200
- 02**Deposits:** $100 small · $200 medium · $400 full day. This goes toward your final price and is refundable.
- 03**No HST** charged on top.
Safety, Skin And Healing
A tattoo is art and it is also a wound while it heals. You should feel confident about how I work before you book.
I am certified in bloodborne pathogens and my setup has passed public health inspection in Toronto. Equipment is single‑use where it should be and surfaces are cleaned between every client.

Plan For Pain And Your Own Comfort
Everyone feels tattoo pain differently, but some things help it feel manageable. Knowing what to expect is a big one.
I recommend reading the full tattoo pain guide if this is your first piece. It breaks down what usually feels sharper and what most people describe as more of a steady burn.
In the chair, I keep the pace calm. We can take short breaks, adjust position and go over how you are feeling as we work.
Think Through Work And Long‑Term Life
A tattoo is for now and for later. That means thinking a bit beyond this month.
Some workplaces in Toronto are relaxed. Others still expect tattoos to be covered. If you are unsure how your job will react, read the workplace tattoo considerations article.
Also think about:
- 01Clothing you wear most days
- 02Sports or activities that might rub a fresh tattoo
- 03How you might feel about very visible placements in ten years
Know What To Expect From Healing
Healing is just as important as the session itself. How you look after the tattoo affects how it looks long term.
Before you leave, I go over aftercare with you and send it in writing. The tattoo aftercare guide on my site matches what I explain in person.
You will find:
- 01How to wash and dry your tattoo
- 02What to put on it and how often
- 03What is normal and what is not as it heals
Be Honest About Regret And Fading
Most people are happy they got tattooed. Some wish they had chosen differently.
It helps to think this through before you book instead of after. Two guides I suggest reading are:
They cover what tends to age well, what tends to blur or lighten faster, and how placement and lifestyle play into it. My goal is to design something that still reads clean years from now.

Book A Consultation
Once you have:
You are ready to talk.
I offer free 10–15 minute consultations, video or in person at 1800 Davenport Rd, Unit 6 in Toronto. It is appointment only, no walk‑ins.
- 01A rough idea or a few references
- 02A sense of placement and size
- 03An honest look at budget and timing

What To Bring To Your Appointment
When your booking day comes, a bit of prep makes everything smoother.
Bring:
- Government photo ID (18+ only)
- Any final reference images saved on your phone
- Clothing that gives easy access to the area I am tattooing
- Snacks or a drink if you are in for a longer session
Eat a normal meal beforehand and drink water. Avoid alcohol and recreational drugs on the day; I will not tattoo you if you show up under the influence.
We will go over the design together before I start. Placement is checked in the mirror and adjusted until it feels right for you.
Ready To Start?
You do not have to have every detail locked in before you book. You just need a clear idea and an open mind.
My job is to take what you bring, then design something that fits your body and your life. When you are ready to move from planning to doing, I am here.
